this 4,000 sf single -family residential house was divided into three linked ‘cottages’ which each function as a standalone house for their distinct uses. they are linked by glass connector pieces to help them float apart, further breaking down the overall mass.
the master cottage layout places the bedroom retreat to the more private side of the house with views of the pool. the plan places a large walk -in shower with ridge skylight in the center. the central cottage houses the main living space with a large open plan featuring a kitchen, dining, and living room. large glass doors brighten the interior space with natural light and maximize views of the pool while the cathedral ceilings create a spacious interior.
the guest cottage, the third multilevel section, was sunk a half level into the ground to keep the scale of the masses down. this cottage holds the garage and guest rooms, which float off a central stair. the interior space design features simple reglet reveals and white oak floors showcasing a warm minimalist look. the pool house completes this site, echoing the cohesive cottage shape. all cottages nestle around a central outdoor space featuring an in-ground swimming pool, scenic landscape, and outdoor dining area.
